‘A Truth Universally Acknowledged’ – Finding Spiritual Riches in Jane Austen - led by the Ven. Dr Rachel Mann

‘A Truth Universally Acknowledged’ – Finding Spiritual Riches in Jane Austen

Jane Austen is beloved to millions as a writer of witty, insightful novels. In this Retreat, Austen fan and scholar, Rachel Mann, will explore how she offers wisdom and spiritual food for prayer and self-reflection. No previous knowledge of Austen novels or adaptations required, but may be helpful.

This is a retreat and house party in period style! As part of the programme we will be joining the resident community in the daily prayers in the chapel. The beautiful Great Hall and Lounge serve as the perfect backdrop and you are invited to come dressed up, although it is not compulsory. We prefer you use imagination rather than money! As a highlight of the weekend we have a Regency dance and music group coming to lead a ball for us in the beautiful Lounge on Saturday night.

The Ven. Dr Rachel Mann is a priest, poet, scholar, and broadcaster. She has written fifteen books, including a popular Lent book based on Jane Austen’s novels. In addition to being Archdeacon of Salford and Bolton, she regularly contributes to Radio 4’s Thought For The Day and other programmes.
