The Vine Community Meeting
A new dispersed community has been forming through some initial meetings at Whalley Abbey and we are now inviting anyone in the Diocese of Blackburn and beyond who is interested to come along. Having sought permission, we are adopting the name of something that had its beginnings in the diocese but has not been active recently: The Vine Community. The name and biblical image reflect our desire to abide in Christ and belong together, to grow and bear fruit.
Our aims are to:
Support each other in deepening our life of prayer and discipleship in our own context
Grow towards living in the rhythm of a Rule of Life
Link with the resident community and activities at Whalley Abbey as the physical focal point
Seek inspiration in the Benedictine/Cistercian heritage of Whalley Abbey
In this first series of meetings we will be looking at themes from the Rule of St Benedict which Esther de Waal interprets for the modern day in her book Seeking God. The meetings will start at 4pm with an introduction to a theme and discussion, followed by evening prayer at 5.30pm and a bring-and-share meal.
The meeting is facilitated by Rev. Anna Walker, Director of Whalley Abbey.
